“Since the launch of the ACP on 27 September 2019 the team is delighted to announce that an increasing number of sponsors - in cash and kind, corporate and individual – have joined the Programme. Additionally, despite the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, discussions with further sponsors continue as planned, albeit rather than being conducted face-to-face, conversations are now progressing on-line. A full list of all sponsors/supporters of the ACP will be published in the Autumn.
Because the launch was held at Cranfield University - the Vice-Chancellor of which is our Honorary Vice-President - for logistical reasons invitations were mainly confined to the Midlands and London & the South East. Already approaching 70 schools from these two combined regions have joined the ACP. This number is now expected to increase as 2020 progresses and we move into 2021 onwards, both in respect of these regions, and elsewhere in the UK as the presentations move into the North East, North West, Wales & the South West, Scotland & Norther Ireland as well.
However, like all other organizations at the moment, the ACP has been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. Consequently, in agreement with the schools concerned, the presentations that were due to take place in March and April 2020 have been postponed until the Autumn. Those due to take place in September, October and November will go ahead, epidemic circumstance permitting. Further information on the 2020 presentations will be published as the year progresses.
In the meantime, all behind-the-scenes activity for the presentations, the workshops, the forthcoming AA810 Network, and the ACP as a whole, continues unabated, including the important fact that the ACP will shortly convert to a charity with its own Board of Trustees chaired by Dr Michael Smith.
Additionally the much anticipated entry to the engineering workshops will be via a nation-wide competition that takes account of the effort and commitment shown by the applicant. Discussions are now underway concerning the application for, attendance at, and conduct of, the engineering workshops which are likely to be held in conjunction with the Shuttleworth Trust and the RAF Museum during October each year. However, with the current Covid-19 epidemic in mind, the first workshop may be delayed until 2021.
As the impact of the epidemic progresses the Sandy Gunn ACP team will continue to update the schools and applicants directly and our followers via our websites and social media platforms."
