Speaking of this appointment, ACP Chairman and Project AA810 Director, Dr Michael Smith, said:
Project AA810 is extremely fortunate to have as its ‘Presidential Team’: Sir Michael, a distinguished Diplomat, UK Ambassador, and now Executive Council member of the World’s largest aerospace company; Sir Peter, an eminent and internationally renowned engineer and university vice-chancellor with a specific involvement in aerospace; and now Lord Trenchard, a top-flight member of the global financial world, Government adviser, distinguished member of the Parliamentary Upper House, and scion of such a significant aviation family.
On behalf of the whole Project team – Sir Michael and Sir Peter, the trustees, members, supporters and suppliers - I welcome Lord Trenchard most heartedly to the Project and its three elements - the rebuild and subsequent operation of Spitfire PR.IV AA810, the Sandy Gunn Aerospace Careers Programme, and the proposed National Monument - which, together, constitute, on the one hand a living memorial to the young men of the WWII PRU, and on the other, a forward-looking, productive and permanent UK-wide youth programme that, we sincerely hope, will be to the benefit of every person involved, whatever their age, employment, position and circumstances.
